You may record the Conductor track in Reference Mode in any group.
Your students must record in Collaboration Mode in their Assigned Groups.
You will need to add the "Conductor" part to the "Part Names" at the "Create New Project" page. I had not included a "Conductor" part in my walkthrough. You must include the "Conductor" part.

Hello,
I am following this thread. I don't want to derail the conversation but I have a question that I think is related. I would like to record my orchestra using groups. As you have said, I could assign parts Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello and Bass. But, I have more violins than other instruments and only one bass. So, I'm wondering how that would effect things. Would some groups just not have that part that I have less of covered?? (I think that would be fine.) I've also been wondering what happens if I assign a student to record a part and they don't. You know, some kids just don't do their assignments! How will that impact things? I'm hoping that just means that part doesn't exist in both of these scenarios I have described and there isn't an empty white square in the video or something! Thank you for your help! Oh, and my goal is to ultimately do a mega export.

Hello, thanks for asking for clarification.
If I am understanding correctly, yes, some Groups might be more full than other Group. An empty video window, either because a student did not complete the assignment, OR if there was no instrument part assigned to that window in the first place will not affect the Mega Export. Mega Export will not include 'empty' video windows.
Below is an example of how I do my string orchestras. You do not have to set up your project at all in the same way. There are lots of different ways to do it, depending on what is best for your group. This is just an example to illustrate how uneven instrument numbers affect the creation/export process:
violin 1a violin 1b violin 2a violin 2b viola a viola b cello a cello b
Each Group has all 8 of the above video windows. I record reference tracks in each of the 'a' parts (ie violin 1a, violin 2a, viola a, cello a), then divide the students into 5 Groups.
Groups 1-3 have a viola student assigned, but there aren't enough viola students to fill also Groups 4 and 5. That's ok. The violin and cello students will still be able to hear the viola part while recording since I have a viola track recorded in Reference Mode. Furthermore, the empty video window in the 'viola b' slot will not affect Mega Export. Mega Export will not include that empty video window.
Group 4 maybe the cello student doesn't submit their recording. That's also ok. Mega Export will not include that empty video window.
I hope that this helps!

Projects that you have created or that have been shared with you appear on your CL homepage. You can get to the CL homepage by going to www.cyborgllama.info, and clicking "Log In": You may also find the How to Collaborate tutorial useful, which you can find HERE.
