Hello,
I am wondering why the individual videos look different between how I see them in-app, and what they look like after export.
I am sorry I don't have screenshots. I will try to describe as best I can.
IN-APP: My collaborators are all shown with their faces, bodies, and instruments fully in view by the camera.
AFTER EXPORT: My collaborators are cropped unexpectedly. After export, only their instruments are visible (bodies and faces cropped out)
This was after a 'regular', 'non-mega' export. Problem persists after restarting browser, and computer, and present in Firefox and Chrome.
No one else I know has this problem, so I know it must be user error but can't think of what step I am missing. Thank you for your time.

Hello.
Did your exported project have recordings made in all video windows?
For example, if the project was created with 4 video windows and recordings were only made in three video windows, this will end up cropped after export. If you do not record the number of video windows set at project creation, the export aspect ratio will auto crop and it may not grab the part of the frame you wish. As long as you record the number of videos specified at project creation, this will not be a problem.
Please let me know if you think this could be the problem.

Ah, yes! I haven't shuffled things around yet to check, but I bet that's it - I have one open video window slot with no recording in it. That makes sense.
Thank you for your quick response and your help.

Can I ask for a little more clarification on this topic? Ii had a similar experience where I assigned groups AFTER the students recorded, and the export video auto cropped the individual videos. I'm trying to fix this on our next attempt and want to make sure I'm understanding this. My main question is: does it matter how many parts I assign in the groups? In other words, if I assign 4 parts in the initial project creation, do I need to be sure that each group has all 4 parts or can there be groups of 2 or 3? Will these smaller groups yield cropped videos because of the export aspect ratio? Thanks in advance!

Of course, thank you for asking.
Mega-export cropping is based on the number of videos included in the export. Because of this, you do not need to necessarily have the full 4 parts recorded in each group.
However: usually mega-export will tend to crop to an aspect ratio that is similar or very close to the original aspect, but there are certain ratios of numbers of parts:target resolutions that will result in a cropping that is noticeably deviant from the original.
This is because CL prioritizes maintaining resolution quality of recorded videos over maintaining aspect ratio of recorded videos. If users are interested, we would be able to develop a more involved project creation process that would be able to maintain resolution AND aspect ratio of recorded videos, but would be at the expense of the program's current simplicity. Otherwise (and certainly for the time being), musicians should plan on using the center portions of their screens to avoid being cut on mega export.

I am here to post two updates:
1) It now no longer matters if there are video windows left empty at the time of export. Cyborg Llama will no longer crop. Videos as they appear in-app will be how they appear at export.
2) Mega-export will now no longer crop videos at all. The video aspect as it appears in-app will be the aspect for the Mega Export.
We hope that these improvement to the program will make recording and exporting less stressful.
